Summer Without The Splurge: How To Save While Having Fun

NinJo Group

It’s been a few weeks since school has been out, and your wallet may be feeling it. Summer is a season of vacations, activities, eating out, and keeping kids entertained…which means it can be an expensive time of year.

The good news though, is that you don’t need a huge budget to have a memorable summer.

Here are some easy ways to save money, stick to a budget, and still have plenty of summer fun!

Create A Summer Budget (That Still Leaves Room for Fun)

Before the summer gets too busy, decide what you want your money to do for you.  Start by making a simple list that includes the must-have expenses like groceries and gas, the summer activities or trips you want to do, and a little “fun money” for unexpected adventures. A budget doesn’t mean saying no to everything, it just helps you decide what you want to put your money towards.

Find Free Fun

You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to create a memorable summer. Visit local parks and libraries, find outdoor movie nights, and explore nature with bike rides or hikes. A little hint: When at the library, ask about free passes to local museums they may have for families this summer.

Save Money On Meals

As you’re on the go, it’s tempting to grab takeout, but food costs add up quickly. Try to plan easy weekly meals, pack snacks before leaving the house, have picnic lunches instead of restaurants, and grill some extra food for leftovers.

A little preparation can save a lot of money.

Plan Ahead For Big Expenses

The best way to avoid overspending is to plan and research before you head out. Look for discounts, bundle deals, or even free days.  That theme park day may have to wait a bit longer if you want to keep your wallet happy.

Make Memories, Not Just Purchases

Kids usually won’t remember how much something costs--they’ll remember the laughter, traditions, and time spent together.

Starting simple summer traditions like Friday movie nights, family game nights, backyard camping, and ice cream taste tests, will make some of the best summer memories.

Summer is meant to be enjoyed, not spent worrying about money. With a little budgeting, creativity, and planning, you can have a season filled with fun without the financial stress.
