Signs It’s Time To Redesign Your Website

Have you been sitting with the same website for the last three years?

If so, it’s time to make a change.  Having a website that is out of date is less attractive to your customers.

Surveys show that 81-percent of internet users think less of a business if their website isn’t updated.

While it may sound like a lot of work, it’ll pay off!

With the digital world rapidly changing, there are many modern technological developments and new trends that appear every year.

According to a survey by Orbit Media, the average lifespan of a website is two years and seven months.  So, if you haven’t updated or re-designed your website recently, there’s a good chance it needs a facelift.

The main issue with an “old” website is that it’s not as user-friendly and current with today’s updates.

Let’s look at how the website development business has changed within just the last couple of years.

Today’s websites have a high demand to be mobile-friendly.  Just a few years ago, consumers would browse the web on their phone and had to pinch and scroll a lot more because the site wouldn’t fit the tiny cellphone screen.  Today, this has changed.

When consumers browse the web on their smartphone, the pages should appear to fit the screen, avoiding too much scrolling and pinching.

If you’re looking at your website on your phone and can’t see the text, it’s a big sign that it’s time to refresh your website.

Broken links are also an indicator that your website is on the older side.

Through time, links tend to break, bringing your consumer to the dreaded 404 error page.

This leads to a negative customer experience.  Make sure to go through all pages and click around.

If you find broken links, it’s time to fix them.

Websites today also have a quicker upload time compared to just a few years ago.  This has to do with updates in technology.

If your website takes longer than three seconds, it’s time to look at another website host. Research shows that over 50-percent of visitors abandon a site if it takes longer than three seconds to load.  Talk about the need for instantaneous load times.

Let’s dive into how search engine optimization (SEO) has really grown over the last couple of years. More and more companies are web stores today instead of storefronts.  This means there’s more competition on the web.

SEO has been around since 1997, however, it’s become popular over the last few years due to the competition level on the internet.  Most online experiences begin on a search engine page.  While search is the most used digital tool, it’s important to make sure your website has up-to-date SEO features.

If you feel you’ve checked off all of the recommended guidelines, make sure you continue to visit your website at least twice a week to update content.

The fresher the content and pictures, the more up to date your website appears.  We always recommend treating your online presence as if it is a first impression.  Let’s make it a great one.
