Twitter, now called X, is a popular social media platform.

Used by millions of consumers daily, research shows that the United States leads with 95-million users. About half of those individuals are on the platform daily spending an average of 30-minutes.

Whether they’re staying current on news and events, hunting for updates and promotions from brands or simply communicating with friends, X is a great spot to spend part of your day getting your business out there.

But if you aren’t familiar with how to post a “tweet”, you may be missing out.

First and foremost, a good rule of thumb is to keep your tweets at or under 120 characters. This includes punctuation marks and spaces. So, keeping your tweet simple and to the point is key. This will also help with keeping your content specific, so the consumer gets the most valuable and useful information at a glance.

As you’re typing your tweet, make sure to use the most powerful words at the beginning to catch the follower’s eye. Using active, strong verbs is a great way to keep your information compelling.

Once you’ve typed your tweet, it’s time to go over the content and include the “@” sign.

This is essential and should be used when referring to the company or individual. The mention notifies the brand and allows others to click to view the specific business that you’re promoting.

Along with the “@” mention, using a hashtag is key in tweets. Hashtags mark keywords and topics that are currently trending in the industry. This helps users to easily search and follow conversations related to that topic. But be conservative with these. You don’t want to use more than three because it becomes annoying to the consumer and can be considered spam.

Simply put, use the @ when referring to a company or individual, and use the # when referring to a topic.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you’re ready to hit post and start your journey on X.
