Autumn in Colorado is a beautiful time. Crisp air and golden aspens lighting up the mountain slopes make it the perfect time for scenic drives.

If you’re planning a fall foliage trip, here’s a guide to the top places to visit for leaf-peeping adventures throughout the Rockies.

Rocky Mountain National Park & Estes Park

Are you into hiking?  Close to Denver, you’ll be able to experience dramatic peaks while pounding the pavement, biking the trails, or fishing in Estes Park.

Peak To Peak Scenic Byway

This 55-mile route is one of Colorado’s oldest scenic byways.  You’ll catch views of the Continental Divide, aspen forests, and lakes that connect Estes Park to Central City.  Aside from colorful views, you’ll pass through historic ghost towns and have access to many outdoor activities like hiking and biking.

Maroon Bells, Aspen

This is one of the most photographed spots full of wine-colored peaks.  This area is known for its natural views.  Visitors can explore trails in the Scenic Loop Trail around Maroon Lake or can take a strenuous hike to Crater Lake.

Kebler Pass, Near Crested Butte

This is one of the largest continuous aspen groves in North America.  That means, this is THE place to catch stunning color saturation! But hurry over…this mostly gravel road closes during the winter months.

Pikes Peak Region

The elevation variation in this area gives you a long fall season.  Here you’ll be able to hop in your car for beautiful drives with many scenic overlooks where you’ll be immersed in vibrant yellow and gold colors.
