Tips To Keep Your Little Monsters Safe This Halloween
Halloween is almost here! Trick-or-treaters will be taking over the streets to fill up on candy! While it’s fun to dress up and head out with friends, it’s important to remind your kids about safety first.
Here are some tips to keep your trick-or-treaters safe this Halloween!
Stay With A Group
Follow the buddy system and stay with friends to make sure no one is left behind, forgotten, or lost.
Never Go Inside
Remind your kids about stranger danger. No matter how much candy the homeowner may bribe them with, reinforce the importance of always staying outside. Stick to neighborhoods you’re familiar with and know are safe.
Watch For Cars
Just because it’s Halloween night and trick-or-treaters are expected to be out and about, drivers aren’t always paying attention and may also be distracted. Always remind kids to pretend as if they are invisible to drivers. This is also a great reminder for drivers to be cautious. Remember kids are kids, and they may bolt across the street with excitement and without hesitation.
Don’t Eat Homemade Treats
Don’t get tricked into that delicious looking homemade cupcake, unless of course you know the person. If you find an unwrapped piece of candy, tell your kids to just throw it out. It’s not worth it! Remind them how many other pieces they have!
Watch For Unknown People
Creepy or not, it’s hard to know who is behind the mask. Stay with your group and ignore the teenagers or adults who are trying to scare others. Walk away. You never know what their intentions could be.
Bring Some Light
Kids love glowsticks and flashlights. Remember, it gets dark early and it’s a good idea to have some lights so they can be spotted easily by drivers.
Turn On Safety Apps
If your trick-or-treaters have a phone or smart watch, make sure to turn on the “Find My Friends” app so you can easily track them throughout the night.
The safety tips don’t stop once trick-or-treaters head in for the night. Be sure to check their candy. Have your kids count and line the treats up into groups.
This will help you easily check each piece, while the kids have fun witnessing all that they got! Follow these tips and your family should avoid any tricks and keep Halloween a treat for your family. Trick-Or-Treat!
