It’s about that time!

Kids are heading back to school soon and that means parents are making their way to the store to shop for supplies. Since prices have gone up across the globe, families could be feeling the pinch.

Hence the importance of the saying “a dollar saved is a dollar earned”!

So, before you stock your cart full of school supplies, it’s important we do all of our homework on ways to save!

The good thing is, we still have some time! So set your budget and let’s go, it’s almost time for school!

1.      Use What You Have: Did teachers send home unused supplies at the end of the last school year? Do you have any extra folders and pencils? Why spend on these items if you have them laying around the house already?

2.      Shop Sales, Use Coupons: Hit the web and search for supplies that your student needs. See discounts, coupons, or a lower price? You still have time to head to different stores to make sure you’re saving everywhere you can!

3.      Buy In Bulk: If you have friends that are willing to split the cost, buying in bulk can save a ton! Supplies like paper, pencils, and notebooks can be cheaper if you buy them in large quantities.  Have several students? Split the supplies.  It’s best to buy in bulk!

4.      Buy Generic Brands: Generic or store-brand supplies generally come at a lower price and still have the same quality.  It’s not worth the extra dollar for name-brand items.

5.      DIY Supplies: Plain folders are less expensive than decorative ones. Have your child decorate their own or buy fun name tags to label them! This adds a personalized touch to your child’s supplies, all while keeping them busy at the same time!

6.      Shop Online, Avoid Impulse Buys: Have you noticed when shopping online, you typically spend less than if you were to visit the store? Shopping on the web helps you stick to your list and avoid the temptation of impulse purchases that occur in the store.

So, while it’s still July, let’s get those supply lists out and do your homework, because before you know it, store shelves will be picked over and you’ll be stuck paying more for items you are forced to buy last-minute.

These strategies can help you stretch your budget further and ensure you’re getting the best bang for your buck during back-to-school shopping!
