Stay Safe This Fourth Of July: Tips For A Festive, Injury-Free Holiday
Summer is officially here and that means Americans are gearing up to celebrate one of their favorite holidays—the Fourth of July! The week leading up to Independence Day is filled with fireworks, food, family, and fun.
But while it’s a time for celebration, it can also be one of the most dangerous times of the year.
Whether you’re grilling, enjoying a fireworks display, or throwing one of your own shows, a few smart safety precautions can go a long way in keeping everyone safe, including your four-legged pets.
FIREWORKS SAFETY:
Check local fireworks laws
Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby
Light fireworks one at a time, step back quickly
Always supervise children--sparklers burn over 1200 degrees
Don’t relight duds--soak them in water and throw them away
Don’t point fireworks at people, homes, or flammable objects
Don’t use homemade or illegal fireworks
GRILL SAFETY:
Only grill outdoors, away from structures and deck railings
Never leave the grill unattended
Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away
Clean grease buildup to prevent flare-ups
Use long-handled tools to avoid burns
SUN & HEAT SAFETY:
Wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply every 2 hours.
Stay hydrated—especially if drinking alcohol
Know the signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating
PET SAFETY:
Keep pets indoors in a quiet, secure space
Don’t bring them to fireworks shows
Make sure their ID tags and microchips are up to date
Consider calming products if your pet gets anxious with loud sounds
So, whether you’re lighting sparklers or flipping burgers, be sure to stay alert, safe, and make the Fourth of July one to remember. Happy Fourth Of July!
