Illinois Tax-Free Days Are Here!
Back-to-school season is here, and for many families, that means one thing—shopping lists! If you have yet to head to the store, you’re in luck…Illinois’ Back-To-School State Sales Tax Holiday kicks off August 7th and lasts through August 16th!
During this 10-day period, families can save on certain clothing, footwear, and school supplies.
According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, the state’s portion of sales tax throughout the holidays is reduced by 5 percent…from 6.25% to 1.25% (local taxes may still apply). To qualify for savings on clothes and shoes, they must be priced less than $125 per item. For school supplies…they’re eligible regardless of price!
Tax-free shopping days are the perfect opportunity to stretch your budget and check off any must-have items without paying sales tax.
While savings may seem small, they add up fast when you’re shopping for multiple children. Hey, that extra money in your pocket can go toward lunch money or extracurricular activities.
Psst…here’s another tip on saving up. Many retailers stack additional promotions on top of tax-free days!
Overall, the back-to-school season doesn't have to break the bank. So, head to the store during the next ten days and take on the new school year feeling organized, confident, and ready to make the most of every dollar.
