Brrr! It’s Cold Out — Cozy Up With These Screen-Free Activities
We can all feel it…winter has settled in. From Colorado to Illinois, the deep freeze has hit. In the Chicago area, we’ve already had an e-learning day. Some on the other hand, were able to enjoy a traditional snow day.
However, when the temperatures dip too low for outdoor play, parents must keep their kids inside. With this of course, comes begging for screen time.
But here are some fun, screen-free ways to make the most of winter inside, together.
Play Zone Home
We don’t have to be outside to move. Set up a bowling game with plastic bottles or put on a brain break video! You can also build a fort and create an indoor obstacle course with pillows, blankets, and chairs.
Games & Puzzles
It’s time to open those cabinets and pull out some board games, cards, and puzzles. This keeps the kids busy and encourages connection and friendly competition.
Get Crafty
Set up an art station with paper, crayons, glue, and whatever odds and ends you have on hand. If you’re not feeling the glue, or if your kids are too young, pull out some coloring books for the kids to explore.
Cook Together
Snow days are perfect for baking or slow cooking. Let kids help with getting ingredients together or whipping up some delicious brownies. These are cozy ways to enjoy a cold, winter day.
Story Read Aloud
Grab some books from the shelves and take turns reading. You can also throw on an audiobook and cuddle up with blankets and hot chocolate. This is also a great way to have fun while learning.
If the weather turns and you feel the kids can head outdoors, bundle them up!
Whether you go sledding or set up a simple snowball target game, the fresh air (even for a short time) can boost moods, and they can burn off some extra energy!
Overall, snow days don’t need screens to be special. With some creativity and a lot of togetherness, you can turn the day into one of the coziest of the year.
